Inclusivity & Cultural Safety
Yurandalli Counselling is committed to person-centred, trauma-informed, culturally safe and inclusive practice for all clients. We welcome and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ people (including Sistergirls and Brotherboys), and people living in regional and remote communities.

Being inclusive and culturally safe means:

-
Listening to how you describe your own identity, culture, family, community and experiences, and respecting your language, names and pronouns.
-
Recognising the ongoing impacts of colonisation, racism, discrimination, ableism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia on people’s social and emotional wellbeing.
-
Making space for culture, community, spirituality, story and lived experience in counselling when you choose to bring these into the work.
-
Working in ways that aim to reduce shame and blame, and that acknowledge both harm and strength, resistance and survival.
-
Offering information in clear language and being open to feedback if something doesn’t feel right or safe for you.

Please tell me about any access, communication or cultural needs you have (for example: interpreter support, preferred language, pronouns, mobility or sensory needs, cultural or community obligations, or how you would like Country, culture or spirituality to be included or not included in our work). I will do my best to accommodate these needs or, where that’s not possible, to work with you on other options or referrals that feel safer and more suitable.
