DEPRESSION

In other situations, the person may have an inherent tendency towards depression, and such genetic factors can be key in the case of bipolar disorder

Appears to others to be depressed

Severe Depression Symptoms

In addition to the symptoms of moderate depression, the person's judgment is impaired in a severe depression - i.e. they have an extreamely negative or pessimistic view of their own self-worth and future prospects.

Strong suicidal thoughts (or intent) will also be present

Someone suffering a severe depressive episode may have delusions or false beliefs (e.g. that they are evil, wicked, bankrupt or terminally ill) or may suffer from hallucinations (hearing voices or having visions) with similar themes. When delusions or hallucinations are present are present, the depression is referred to as a psychotic depression. Such depressions are an extreme extension of negative thinking.

Boredom is an emotional state experienced when an individual is left without anything in particular to do, and not interested in their surroundings.

Boredom can be a symptom of clinical depression. Boredom can be a form of learned helplessness, a phenomenon closely related to depression.

Boredom has been studied as being related to drug abuse. Boredom has been proposed as a cause of pathological gambling behaviour. A study found results consistent with the hypothesis that pathological gamblers seek stimulation to avoid states of boredom and depression.

Research suggests that happiness is not able to be purchased. However, we have discovered that if you have enough money you can buy enough comforts to be comfortable in your misery.

Happiness cannot be bought. Happiness is your ability to adjust to whatever life throws at you. Happiness is the result of your ability to manage the life and environment with which you engage. At Counselling Sydney we can assist you to develop the skills required to adjust to your life. These skills, once learnt and if maintained, are free for you to use whenever you need.
